It's always good to go into a shoot prepared with ideas in mind so that I know what I need to get, the rest is up to baby. This little guy tried doing a switcheroo on me, tried to foil my plans. Little did he know I've been there before and have grown accustom to flying by the seat of my pants. And even though I didn't get all of the things I had planned to, I am so in love with the images we captured. My favorite is the tenderness shared between the new family. It reminds me of moment Gustav Klimt would paint if I may be so bold.

These children are heart melting, and that toe nibbling was the icing on the cake. Could hardly stand the cuteness! This beautiful family had a few ensembles from Janie and Jack for the kids and tied it all together with a great vintage trunk. It makes me so happy when my clients have fun props to incorporate into their baby's portraits. I just love the inside of the trunk. It had a great lining that looked like torn wallpaper which makes me want a huge backdrop just like it.

Here is a look into my morning with Michael and Sam. It took a wee bit to get the boys in sync and into the groove with the camera, but things were going along pretty good and then someone decided the session was over.

Some photo sessions are just so pretty I want to share all the children's pictures, and these portraits taken at Gene Coulon Park in Renton were some of my favorites this month. The color really popped and we even had a hint of fall leaves we were hoping for.

I'm not a sports fan, but I understand that you are either a Husky fan or a Cougar's fan if you live in Seattle. These two fans put their differences aside for an hour and showed how cool it is to just be family. Even though they are cousins, you could easily mistake them for brother and sister. The nicknames people come up with for their babies delight and crack me up. I've heard sing-song versions that rhyme with their names, tough guy names for boys, sweet names for little girls and this one which is fast becoming my favorite... Tater. It's Tate, but how could you not resist wanting to take a bite out of a chunky 6 month old nicknamed Tater?! His older sister did a good job of hugging and kissing, keeping my shutter clicking and being forced to resist that nibbling urge I was getting. Mom took a bite of those wiggly piggy toes and dad got in there too. Being a fly on the wall for moments like this just make me so happy!

It really doesn't matter if the subject I'm photographing is a family, newborn, wedding or seniors, I always have so much fun when I'm out with my camera. This day was a double treat though. I recently had my 20 year high school reunion (yes, 20 years already) and saw so many faces I hadn't seen in, well over twenty years. It was a great chance for all of us to reconnect, an although I came in during the last few minutes of the evening (I was photographing an amazing wedding in Tacoma, so it was worth missing), and catch up. There was of course a flurry of activity on Facebook surrounding the big day and that's when I got a message from a super sweet girl I used to sit by in English class. She asked me to capture a few photos of her family, but mostly of smiley little Bryce. He's a heart breaker, a major sandbox digger and a really cool kid. Thanks so much for reaching out, spending a perfect morning at Saltwater State Park and reconnecting M!

When I photograph senior portraits I like to have a rough plan and then see what the individual senior brings with both their style and personality. Mt. Si Seniors are always my favorites. They seem to have this subtle toughness that kids who grow up in the country have, without losing touch with the city. And they always surprise me when I ask what classes they are taking and what they want to do when they get out of school. Little Lucas is already six months old and such a different little guy than when I first photographed him. I was so happy to get outdoors Saturday and enjoy a gorgeous fall day among the pumpkins and corn stalks with the O family. The fields were crawling with little ones (even if only little at heart) seeking their perfect pumpkin, and look what we found. This could be the cutest pumpkin you'll ever see!

Don't let this stately face fool you. Once he get's a slime line of slobber hanging from his face he looks like a big dufus. Magnuson is a friends dog, and although I'm not a dog photographer, I thought it would be fun to play one for a day. What I found out? Dogs have shorter attention spans than 2 year olds and the only thing that keeps a dog the size of a small horse captive good old fashioned dog treats. I'll stick to photographing cuddly newborns and kids that will work for lollipops for now.

Seattle has beautiful summers in the low 80's, perfect for getting outdoors, hiking, camping and for senior portraits. This year I've been happy to work with a great group of soon-to-be grads. A lot have goals so much higher than I'd entertained when I was their age and they seem so grown up too.

I had such a fun time running around Fall City with Lena. We found a few interesting places with small town feel that were perfect for shooting. When we spotted a bright yellow vintage Imperial cruising down the street, I got an idea. Lena was game to see if they owner would give us a few minutes to take photos with the car, and thankfully he was too! Seniors often like to include things that are personal like their lettermans jacket or band instrument. Lena wanteda few with her best old friend and her gun. I'm thinking she needs a sweet car like this too, it just seemed to suit her. Thanks for a great shoot and being such a cool chic Lena!

My morning started by photographing the captain of a soccer team then continued with the theme in Lakewood taking Stephanie's senior portraits, she's the captain of her soft ball team. The plan was to do a few pictures at her high school and then head to a nearby park for the rest. First day of school was only a few short weeks away and campus was a mess from summer construction. Still we were able to find some beautiful spots to shoot. Fort Steilacoom Park was heavenly though with tons of long golden grass and cool places for photos. I could have photographed there all day. I don't really know where to start when describing this wedding. Jason and Jen picked the perfect location to celebrate their marriage and a love for the outdoors. Their family spends time in Leavenworth often so it was natural not to have the wedding in Seattle, but out in the country at Pine River Ranch. After all, their first date was a 14 mile hike in the Cascades!

The couple, along with friends and family, spent a year preparing for the rustic, yet, romantic big day. From the local vintage fruit labels decorating galvanized tins of pinecones which held tiny chalkboard signs with the couples initials written on them, to their wire brownie-cake topper. Even the fish on their plates were caught by friends in Alaska, a nod to another outdoors trip upon which the couple became engaged. There was not a detail left to chance.

I met Sara and her mother at a fundraiser auction for breast cancer research. Just seeing a teen involved helping with something that seems so far beyond what a teenager should even be worrying about impressed me. Fast forward a few months and I find out she was the lucky bidder/winner of the senior portrait session I donated. So away we went with soccer cleats, homecoming dress and her spunky self to do photos.
We started at Celebration Park in Federal Way since they had a bright green soccer field, even in the end of summer. Sara had some pretty tricky moves and did a long sequence of takes, then I got the shot we were going for. It felt to me like it was about 80* already and the day was just starting.
Next we did a quick stop near Redondo for some photos in her homecoming dress. It cooled down about 5* as we got near the water and a haze was blocking the previously very bright sun. I thought the brown dappled wall looked beautiful next to the bright teal blue of her gown and we had some really pretty soft light coming through the mist.
Finally we headed to the beach down at Saltwater State Park. That same mist was hanging out making the beach look more like the surface of the moon, Sara's dress and bubbly personality was a beautiful pop of color against it all.

These two had so much energy, lucky for me the yard we did photos in was relatively small so I didn't have to chase them too far. For most of the shoot, it was kids at one side of the yard, me at the other. By the time I made it to the opposite end, they had (((zzzooom))) raced past me. The family portraits make me smile. I love how they capture the joy of family being together. Not one person is a bit concerned with the camera and I love it that way. Thank you M family!

I must preface this post by saying this tiny baby girl is perfect and gorgeous in so many ways. But just yesterday I was talking with a parent of a newborn about how babies have general lack of muscle control. Sometimes they get momentary crossed eyes, and it's oddly adorable. I never know how a baby is going to be when I photograph them. Some are sleepy, some are wide awake, and as you can imagine, they exhibit every emotion in between during a session. This day I captured the afore mentioned eyes, as well as baby smiles, tears and a few tender moments with mom and dad. Thank you Kaylee!

Momma found this adorable sock monkey hat, crocheted especially for a baby girl in pink and grey, on Etsy. Since they come in so many shapes and sizes, "newborn" size should be used loosely when dressing babies, it is generally not accurate. This was the case with baby Audrey who at first had her little head smooshed into a size too small hat. I thought her cute wrinkled face was a result of the hat being too tight, but once mom cut the back of the hat open and her little brow didn't unfurrow, her little scowl made me melt, but even more, she has cute monkey toes to match! So much cuteness. Congratulations mom, dad & big sister!

Nora is one lucky girl. Both sets of her grandparents and some family flew in just for her first birthday party, which mom had planned a cherry themed rooftop bbq to celebrate the big day. There were two cakes: one for Nora, the other was for the guests. Of course, the highlight of a one year old's first birthday is to let them dig into their very own cake, which can make for some adorable photographs. This was no exception as she slowly got into the groove and finished off her own pink cherry covered cake. Happy One adorable girl!

I met Carter when he was just a little guy. He's still pretty little, but what you couldn't tell when I met him first was that he was going to have a shock of red hair. And it's that soft fuzzy baby hair, so he's extra over the top cute right now.

We actually did these photos the day before Mother's Day, but a buzz was in the air, so I ran with the mom thing and added hearts. Mom + heart's + babies, how could these pictures not work? Well, silly me. I have since made a mental note to attempt cutesy photos of adorable kids next to chalk art when they aren't ready for their naps. Luckily mom is going to love those beautiful faces even if they're all scrunched up and crying. My mental check list for photography sessions keeps growing. It's little things like this that experience gives you. Thanks Colton & Carter, you guys taught me something new!

There were a ton of people out yesterday, and surely I couldn't have been the only one who took a photo of the big chalk sign outside of Fleurt, West Seattle's creative floral design studio. The shop was spilling with beautiful and "not your typical flowershop" flowers. With great attention to detail, pretty trinkets were tucked here, there and between. I'd never been to Fleurt before, but having walked into what smelled like heaven and was equally a feast for the eyes, I will be back. Seriously, a must visit!

I was starting to think I was getting the cold shoulder from newborn Lucas, but mom and dad knew exactly what he wanted, and that was to be snug as a bug. So, if you didn't figure it out already, yes, I wanted to strip baby to his birthday suit and do photos. He wasn't having it. Thanks to some expert shhhushhhing from mom & dad, and a lovely power nap on daddy's belly, baby was ready for the session the way he wanted it. Warm and bundled up.

I knew Madison was going to be a beautiful baby, her mother is stunning and more. But who you imagine in your mind never meets up to how precious, delicate and perfect a newborn can be, or paint the unique qualities each of them have. Madison has the looks of a cherub with the beginnings of her curly locks, blue eyes and perfect bow lips. At 10 weeks old, she is already starting to fill out and I'm dying to see her in a few months to photograph those chubby folds that will likely run up and down her arms and legs.

Brian + Trinity | Tacoma Engagement Session

Trinity was a bridesmaid at one of the first weddings I ever photographed back when I was an assistant. And then she popped up at another, and then another, and yet another. Love is in the air Tacoma! It was a wonderful surprise when she sent me a message saying that she herself was engaged to be married and they wanted me to photograph their own wedding.

We put their engagement session on our calendars, with crossed fingers for good weather, and waited. It turned out gorgeous. Yes is was cold, but they had each other to keep warm.

Downtown Tacoma was our main location. The old buildings provide a lot of character and you don't have to go very far before stumbling upon another inspiring area to photograph. After a bit, and just before the sun went down, we hopped down the road to the newer Chambers Creek park. It's a huge place with waterfront access, grassy fields, a dog park for their big puppy Alice, and a golf club, perfect for holding a wedding reception. I can't wait to shoot there.

These two seem so comfortable with each other. When I asked Brian what that thing was about Trinity that made him know she was the one, without hesitation he said "She is handsdown the coolest, funniest and most beautiful girl I've ever known or dated." Melt!

When I talk with my clients about photographing their children and newborns, I like to ask if there is something special to them, or their children that we can incorporate into the portraits to personalize them. You know, teddy bears, hand-knit items grandma may have made, things with the baby's name on it. Sometimes I get really lucky and the parents have amazing props we can use like this old steamer trunk, and vintage baby buggy that has been handed down from generation to generation. The weather was a bit too damp and chilly to take a newborn outside for photos, but I'm looking forward to getting outdoors with this antique baby stroller and beautiful little girls again sometime soon.

I'm an Anthropologie devotee and always excited to see their latest and greatest catalogs. The clothes have an over the top feminine quality with their ruffles, bows and girly prints. But the styling has a vintage bohemian edge that appeals to my inner free spirit.

Many of my brides have mentioned wanting to capture the romantic Anthropologie feel on their wedding day and now they are making it even easier by launching a whole new store and line of wedding dresses and accessories, appropriately names, BHLDN (pronounced beholden). For Curt & Deloris, with nearly 40 years of marriage, 3 kids, 4 grand kids and all of the hard work that goes into those, I would think love has a lot to do with it. They've given me hope that two people can stay together through thick and thin. All You Need Is LOVE | Auburn Valentine's Portraits

These kids have a special place in my heart. They are the children of my best friend and I was at every one of their births. I don't see them often enough and am always amazed at how much they've grown since the last time I saw them. We've been talking for years now of doing a group photo of the kids and as always, time gets away from us, another holiday or birthday has come and gone, and they just keep growing. Well, we finally did it. Grandma and grandpa worked on the sly to make sure we didn't miss this wonderful time in their lives. They're all still so sweet and willing to sit together, arms around one another. I love these guys!

Right away we were able to sneak a beautiful photograph of mother and daughter in their matching fur coats. That was about it for the fun part, and then the "Terrible Two's" took over.

Terrible Two means almost nothing can make a 2 year old happy. The slightest touch, look or just about anything caused this little girl to melt down. It was one of those days.

Sucker's are my secret weapon against cranky kids. I keep a stash of these huge ones right next to me when I'm working. She was a hard nut to crack, but not against these giant treats. They have yet to do the trick.

Thank goodness they have the color red associated with them, because I'm am sorely late on posting some cute kid photos from a December portrait session.

Children can be quite zippy and make a photographer work faster then expected. This was the case with this spry little girl. About the time mom had her dressed and ready for her pictures, she was ready zip away and change into her rockstar outfit. But not quick enough for me to miss these cute shots of her checking out her sparkly dress or giving teddy some love.

My favorite though is the uber girly duds she's sporting in the second set. Pink coat, animal-eared hat, and the ruffled tutu all topped off with the t-shirt. She looks like a leader, not a follower of fashion.

It's been raining buckets here in Seattle, but not enough to keep us from doing a few family portraits outdoors, even if they were just on the front porch. And I'm filing this photo away for inspiration. I'm in love with that big orange door. But I wonder if I were to paint mine that color if it would look as good. Or would I always need a baby in front of it to make me love it?

Apparently someone decided to go off his sleep schedule and had been wide awake for hours. Love his spacey look in this last photo. Inspite of the rain and lack of sleep, don't you think Charlie pulled through and did a great job on his 6 month portraits?

I was in need of a little sunshine and upbeat music today. With the weather calling for rain all weekend, even to possible flood levels, creating a video to show off a few photos from Tony & Ally's fall wedding sounded like just the ticket.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, wouldn't you love to get one of these little reindeer in your holiday cards this year? My heart just melted when those antlers went on! Mom was prepared with some pretty cute accoutrements, and even borrowed the dogs toy box as the makeshift sleigh. But shhh, don't tell the dogs.

Working on location has it's challenges for sure, but the Seattle area is ripe with beautiful photo backdrops. You can be from the beach to the mountains in under an hour. With urban and country locations in between, there are so many opportunities for unique portraits. If only we could order up sunshine on the days we want to get outdoors, it would be a photographers paradise!

Two by the Sea | Holiday Beach Photos

It's that magical time of year and there is nothing more wonderful than spending it with newborn parents. When I photograph a newborn mom and dad fill the room with coo's, baby talk and anything in between to get little one's attention. It's truly amazing and I always feel so blessed to be the chosen one, the photographer who gets to spend time with doing baby's first photo shoots. And isn't that hat to die for?

I had the honor of photographing Kevin & Kjell's wedding 3 years ago, but yesterday my day was made extra special when they asked me to photograph their pink cheeked 5 month old Hank. He has one of those perfect Gerber Baby faces and an adorable bottom lip that I hear pouts out further and further when he's really working it. We did part of the shoot in the crib Hank's great grandfather slept in as a baby. And I played off of the patina of the vintage crib and gave the look of these photos a soft timeless quality.

This last Sunday turned out to be my favorite day so far this fall. The leaves were golden, sky blue, and the sun was low in the sky. All combined, a perfect day for family portraits! The air was also a little crisp, so we tried to keep moving, stopping long enough for a few portraits here and there. Being two, Hudson didn't have any troubles keeping mom, dad and a certain photographer on the move either. I love the energy this little guy has!

Little Elizabeth has these incredible blue eyes. She's only 6 months old and she's already learning how to use them to her advantage. This photographer fell for her. I'm sure I'm not the last!

Watching babies you start to realize how much you take for granted. Everything they see is something new to explore. We propped her up in a few places throughout the garden, and each time she spent a little time discovering the textures of the grass and plants beside her. It was a beautiful reminder to enjoy the beauty that surrounds us.

It's been 8 blissful years since Nate & Ingrid were married at Kubota Garden in South Seattle. Lucky me, I got hooked up with them and theirs was one of the first weddings I photographed. It seems so long ago and much has happened. They picked up and moved across the country to the Big City, Nate helped create and is partners in a pretty sweet company. (Check out Animoto if you've ever wanted to make your own photo slideshow and didn't know how, it is the shizzle.) On top of that, they have a three year old in tow and a new one on the way. We originally planned to do portraits on their 8 year anniversary, but it was raining and we postponed. Thankfully this beautiful day was just around the corner.

The evening began with closest family and friends enjoying French wines and scrumptious appetizers created by Dave & Dawn Noble and their fabulous team at beautiful Fireseed on Whidbey Island. These two Francophiles couldn't have chosen a more beautiful location to hold their intimate wedding. Gathered within the gardens among the hollyhocks and loved ones, the couple joined in marriage after many years of commitment.

And with "I pronounce you Groom & Groom", wine and tears of joy flowed and the fete continued. Tiffany Blue accents graced the table of vintage vessels containing flowers, French soaps, bon bon tins and pocket sized Eiffel Towers for each guest as a reminder of the enchanted evening.

I knew it would be a special event when I first met Kieran & Alan and their good friend turned wedding coordinator. No detail was overlooked, and it truly was a perfect day. Congratulations!

September is thee best time to do your Senior Portraits. The evening light is gorgeous, with long shadows adding to the drama. It's still warm enough to get outdoors and change up your look with shorts or sundresses, maybe accesorize with a knit hat, scarf or fall sweaters.

Our area is surrounded by beautiful backdrops, whether it's urban or country. Small towns like Snoqualmie where we did these portraits by the old train depot, have a lot of texture, color and character. Pretty parks and such don't always make the best background when you're looking to create mood in photos. I love the strong lines of the train tracks and the multitude of textures the train lends. One thing I learned by photographing this tall beautiful gal is that ballerina's have incredible balance. I had never taken photos of a dancer before and was excited to see what we would come up with. I thought we'd go away from the waterfront, but in the end I really liked the contrast of the concrete against her soft features and figure. Her balance and strength is echoed in the structure. Thanks P for braving the ruins for these photos. Most of us would have ended up soaked in the cold Puget Sound below.

I love that my clients are excited to incorporate favorite items and heirlooms into their newborn and family photographs. This time sweet newborn baby Wyatt took a spin in daddy's favorite salad bowl, complete with salad spoons!
Mom also had the wagon that her grandpa made for her. It reminded me of how cool our wagon was my grandpa made when we were little. Boy, that wagon had some miles put on it!

On any given day you can drive Alki and see family photos, engagement portraits, and maybe even newly weds posing for the camera. It's definitely one of Seattle's hot spots for photographers and divers, roller bladers, dog walkers, cruisers, teenagers... the list goes on. It's even in The Best Places to Kiss in the NW book if you were looking for a new spot to neck.

Finding a private spot for group portraits with out all of the above in your frame can be challenging. We were able to find a stretch of beach, but shared it with about 20 divers and 5 kayaks. How this little guy didn't seem to notice so many eyes on him I don't know. He captured my heart, and I'm sure a few others that day, with his many adorable smiles.

Double Trouble | Newborn Twin Photographs

People ask me to photograph their newborns with their dogs or cats and their little brothers or sisters all the time, but photographing twins definitely came with its own challenges. Usually newborns need to be topped of several times during a session, burped, diapers changed... you get the idea.

These two were total angels and let us prop and pose them all around the farm. I'll let you guess which one is nicknamed "the tongue".

Sunshine and a full moon brings out all the weirdo's in Seattle, right? But how cute is this little bum in leopard undies accessorized by pink rain boots? Obviously you can tell who dressed herself to go outside in the sun for a few pics with her newborn little sister. I love the hand placement, like she's nonchalantly checking for a wedgie. Too cute!

While big sister is wondering how good that milkshake we just bribed her with will be, baby sister, assisted by our wonderful 80* heat, was zonked out for most of her portrait session. Doesn't she have the prettiest little lips?

These two darling buds came to me with gorgeous handknit hats to model for their portraits. These little hats on their tiny heads were so adorable they made you squeal with joy. Second Year Cotton - Alderbrook Resort Wedding

I don't know who came up with the traditional anniversary gifts, but my initial response to the second year being cotton is pretty luke warm. I'm sure when it comes down to it couples can get pretty creative. Maybe a cotton hammock you pick up on a trip to sunny Mexico? Or some sweet hight thread count sheets, that's what I'd like! I missed "cotton" as we are non-traditional and don't do gifts, and besides that quirk, in our sixth year of marriage. Next year will be #7 for me and my Mr. and the "alternate" (read: modern equivalent) is desk sets! I'm ready for an office redoux, maybe it's time to start a new tradition!

She may be small, but she is fast! Mom informed me that they take regular strolls at the park so following Emmy around was down right exercise. I thought I was getting smart and could slow her a bit if we placed her on gravel and kicked off her shoes. (Oh no, that makes me sound like a meanie doesn't it?) Chasing A Ballerina - Bellevue Botanical Garden Portrait Session

Darling Avery showed up in a pink tutu for her portrait at Bellevue Botanical Garden. She had a ton of energy and reminded me of a butteryfly floating from flower to flower. Just about the time I caught up with her, she was flitting off to a new stem.

2 Rockin The Bump - Seattle Belly & Birth Photographer

Once a week for a couple years now I joing a group of talented women for a night of sharing, gossip and creating, aka "stitch and bitch". We are knitters. Many are more talented than me, but I can knit a mean scarf. I've been fortunate to meet some really wonderful gals there; baby mama's, doggie mama's and a few earth mama's too. There's been a little something in the water, or so it seems, as four babies have been added in the last 6 months. I've been fortunate to document a couple bellies and a beautiful home birth. If you're pregnant, having photographs taken before the baby comes is a wonderful way to document your family as it grows. Brothers and sisters love getting in on the action and makes them feel just as special as the belly that's likely been getting all of the attention.

Here are a few of my favorites from their maternity sessions and a wee newborn. This is Shawna's family a week before her litttle baby was born.

And then the day her birth, Shawna who is also a talented child photographer, asked me to capture the first moments of her babies new life. Comforted by loved ones and after a long days labor, baby Lillia was finally born.

Both mama's were due around the same date, infact they delivered just one week apart. Angi's baby I was unable to photograph coming into this world, but she's just as beautiful as her mama is.

I had such a fun time photographing Susan for her upcoming promo cards. She was crowned Miss Moses Lake 2010 and is competing for the upcoming Miss Washington 2010 title. I have to admit, I had a tiny preconceived idea in my head of what it would be like working with a pageant girl. I know, I know, shame on me. But Susan blew me away with her down to earth personality and completely proved me wrong. She is a tough cookie who wore her ball gown in the cattails and a cow pasture, posed for photos in front of the gawking Lightrail security guard with grace (seriously he was there for at least 10 minutes!), and is the only person I've met who has used the word "Cheeseburger" to help muster a smile. I'm sure you'll agree she's darling and hope you get a chance to see her compete and play piano. Good luck girl!!!

Turquoise & Water - Edmonds Beach Wedding

With the sun shining and a deep blue sky, everyone in Seattle was out at the beach. It was a sign that spring was here and summer soon on its way. Obviously blessed with a gorgeous day for their wedding, the groom, Kareem, was grinning ear to ear when he finally got to see his beautiful bride draped head to toe in jewels and a rich embroidery.

Their friends worked feverously to finish bouquets and add final touches to a waterfront room at the Edmonds Senior Center where the reception would be held, while the bride's family cooked an incredible banquet of homemade food. I couldn't begin to tell you what was on the menu, but it was absolutely delicious. Since the weather was perfect, the couple married outdoors surrounded by their loved ones then moved the party indoors for the delicious feast, dancing and to the delight of out of towners, a top notch sunset view.

She may be small, but she knows how to tackle. I was surprised to learn that Stadium High School has a girls football team and they don't play with powder puffs.

I'm rapidly nearing the "hill" and staying in touch with today's youth helps me cope. And senior portraits are always a favorite of mine. Boys and girls are so eager to have their portraits taken, even if it means posing for the camera in public. Tacoma has a lot of great textures and backdrops for shooting.

Another fun day of photographing class of 2010 senior pictures! It was one of those gorgeous days we had last week and this time I got to hang out with Nate and his guitar. We started photos out in a junk heap on hwy 99, then worked our way down to Tacoma. Not in the most likely spots for senior portraits, but if you know my work, you know I like gritty urban locations.
Nate plays guitar (very well I might add) and hopefully he'll remember me when he's a rockstar and needs his album cover shot. Hope you like them, let me know what you think!

Since I didn't post yet why my mom is the best... My mom has always been there for me, been one of my best cheerleaders and been a best friend. We've cruised the mall together blairing the Pointer Sisters from her Buick (yes, it was terribly embarassing and crazy fun at the same time) and share a love for cookie dough and cats. Apples don't fall far from the tree. Even when I was a teenager testing her strength, she was right there. And because a picture is worth a thousand words, here is one of my favorites of mom that's always been on her dresser. That's not of me, but of my mom and my brother. Isn't she beautiful!? Happy Mother's Day mom, I love you!!!

Alexis Priscilla

Alexis Priscilla is the tiniest baby I've ever seen in person. At one week old she weighed in just under 6 lbs (do I have that right mom?) and has the most delicate features. She's beautiful and making mommy and daddy very happy.

It's sometimes hard to tell if newborns are boys or girls. But one look at the pink camoflauge blanket, purple tutu and that big pink bow show that she's all girl.

Dad is a living history buff and former military, so honoring the past and capturing this part of him was important. Being small enough to curl inside this World War II helmet, (although as you see she didn't love the idea), made for an interesting contrast. She was mad and angry at us, but making a strong image none the less... then a thoughtful comment was made by dad that sacrifices were made so that she could be here. Really she was much more content cuddled in daddy's arms for her photographs.

Yesterday I had a blast photographing senior portraits of Elise, check out a few of these sneaks. . Once again the weather pulled through and there were fluffy clouds and sunshine.

Elise's car was loaded with stylish clothes and accessories, much more than I'd expected for a self proclaimed "simple girl". I asked her to bring a fancy dress along just in case and while we were chatting beforehand I asked her about it. Right about then I was expecting her to say ho-hum color, ho-hum description (remember "simple"?) Nope, so far from it. ZEBRA! This girl has style and rocked the shoot!

And lastly my wanna be Anthropologie shot. We never did bring out that zebra prom dress. I'll post more soon.

Last Saturday there was a break in the chilly wet weather. It came just in time for family and guests to arrive for Brad & Christine's wedding.

They had planned an intimate gathering at the Kent Memorial Park building, a quirky little place with a colorful mosaic tiled on the wall outside. It turned out to be a great backdrop for some fun photos.

Shannon Carpenter, of Beyond the Garden Gate, created a beautiful bouquet of purple tulips and pink roses for the bride and boutonierre to play up the colorful striped tie Brad wore.

It was a casual affair and the couple greeted many of their guests, not sticking to the tradition of hiding the bride away before the ceremony. Everyone was seated, and then with a glimmer of tears in her eyes, Christine was walked down the aisle by her daughter. Congratulations you guys!

Sweet little Isaac had a big night out before his photo shoot but was awake for me most of the session. He snuck a 10 second snooze, just long enough for me to catch this photo sporting his darling Giraffe suit grandma crocheted him. Don't you just want on in your size? If this isn't black mail material, I don't know what is.

Isaac is just 5 days old here and hasn't had a chance to fatten up and fill out yet. See those cute little arm wrinkles?

I love this, so tender.
